Tired of Negative Politics…Go Team USA!

Here’s hoping the Olympics will draw us together as a Nation. I am so tired of negative political campaigns! Can we please focus on what we admire in others, acknowledge that kindness is a strength and not a weakness, and concentrate on ways that we may have a positive influence on the world around us?

The Olympics offer an opportunity to celebrate our nation and all that it stands for. Instead of focusing on the things that seem to divide us, let’s celebrate the unique qualities that unite Americans.

The Olympics brings athletes and spectators from all over the world together to compete and to support the Olympic spirit. I embrace the Olympic philosophy when I am able to root for the underdog from another country as well as supporting Team USA.

Pierre de Coubertin is the founder of modern day Olympics. He saw The Games as an opportunity to develop respect, fair play, and acceptance toward each other despite any differences.

Favorite Olympic Quotes:

“The Olympics are a wonderful metaphor for world cooperation, the kind of international competition that’s wholesome and healthy, an interplay between countries that represents the best in all of us.” – John Williams

“Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” – Heywood Hale Broun

“The Olympic Movement gives the world an ideal which reckons with the reality of life, and includes a possibility to guide this reality toward the great Olympic Idea.” – Pierre de Coubertin

I recently read Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos. One of his descriptions for happiness is “being part of something bigger than yourself”.
